Our History
There is evidence that tennis has been played in Hartberg since 1914. The first official tennis club was founded in 1934. On 29 April 1946, TSV Hartberg was founded with tennis as a separate section and tennis has been run as a separate club since 2000.

The TSV men's team defends the Styrian winter championship title in 2024/25. The women's team once again finish as runners-up.

The ladies with Katharina Oswald, Julia Bastova, Tanja Reitgruber, Nicol Benesova and Sabrina Oswald manage to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Unfortunately, the men's team was relegated from the 1st Bundesliga in its second year. A few lost Champions Tiebreaks were responsible for this.

The TSV men's team with Kaufmann, Huszar, Steiner, Altmann and Petz won the Styrian indoor championship title in 2023/24, while the women's team with S. Oswald, Bastova, Reitgruber, Bengi, Mia and Kim Klapf and E Totova finished as runners-up.

Hans-Peter Kaufmann, who plays for TSV Hartberg, wins the state championship runner-up title indoors. He narrowly loses to Filip Misolic in 3 sets in the final.

2023
Peter Fuchs, one of the best tennis players and sportsmen from Hartberg, is leaving TSV forever. He was national senior champion in all age groups, world and European champion in various senior teams and won countless tournaments. He will be remembered forever as a figurehead, idol and role model.

The all-weather courts with the FORCE II system were completed in autumn 2023 and opened as part of the annual Business Cup.

For the first time in their history, the TSV men manage to stay in the 1st Tennis Bundesliga.

After the women's and men's II teams are also promoted to the Landesliga A, there is a big championship celebration at Schloss Hartberg.

Hartberg's men become champions of the 2nd Bundesliga and are sensationally promoted back to the highest Austrian league after exactly 40 years.

Hartberg's men finish as runners-up in the Styrian championship and are promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga once again.
TSV plays the season with Pansy, Kovacs, Hubich, Steiner, Altmann, Pickl and Bende.

TSV brings the Styrian championship title back to Hartberg in the 2017/18 winter championship.

The Styrian men's national championship title goes to Hartberg. After decades, the team is promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga.

TSV Hartberg officially becomes a Styrian youth centre.

The ladies become Styrian national champions in 1998 and 1999. With a 6:1 win against Stockerau in the promotion match, the ladies are promoted to the national league for the first time.

Katrin Glatz becomes U 12 austrian national indoor champion.

Verena Amesbauer becomes U12 state runner-up in singles and austrian champion in doubles.

Markus Lattinger wins the U12 austrian national title in doubles.

Stefan Koubek was able to add his name to the list of winners at the U 16 European Youth Championships. Martina Hingis also played in Hartberg and reached the final as a 12-year-old.

In the years 1993 to 1995, the European Youth Championships for the age group up to 16 years were held three times. An additional grandstand was again erected for the numerous spectators

After the men's team was temporarily relegated from the national league, the team won the Styrian championship title in 1987 and was promoted back to the national league B for one year.

1985
From 2 to 4 August 1985, the Davis Cup match between Austria and Israel was held under the strictest security precautions. There were 3500 spectators on all days of the match. Unfortunately, the match was lost 2:3.

Judith Pölzl, later married to Wiesner, becomes the women's national champion. She beats Petra Huber, then number 39 in the world rankings, in three sets.

At the state championships in Hartberg, 17-year-old Thomas Muster wins in singles and doubles with Alexander Antonitsch.

In September 1984, the Austrian national championships were held in Hartberg. Around 4000 spectators attended the matches that week.

1983
In the course of the promotion of the 1st men's team to the Superliga, the facility was expanded in 1982. A club room, a sun terrace, 3 changing rooms, an office room, new toilet facilities and some cellar rooms were built. A year later, the terrace was extended again and courts 7 and 8 were opened.

After two championship titles in the national league B, the men win promotion in 1981 and are promoted to the highest Austrian league, the so-called Superliga.

The Hartberg women become Styrian champions in 1978 and 1979. However, they are not promoted to the national league.

On 16.04.1978, 400 spectators watch a tennis exhibition between the Austrian champion Hans Kary and the American Norman Holmes as part of the supporting programme for the official opening of the new courts.

In 1977 and 1978, court 5 and 6 and a batting wall were built. At the same time, the previously used ‘Klosterplatz’ is abandoned. This means that all club courts are in the ‘Gmoos’.

Under Dir. Hermann Klapf senior, the grounds were extended in 1971 with the construction of court 3 and 4 and the enlargement of the clubhouse.

From 1961 to 1966 Dir. Karl Probst is head of the TSV tennis section. He is also President of the Styrian Tennis Association for 30 years (1945 - 1975).
